Carbon Capture and Storage lunch-and-learn: Reservoir Engineering & Flow Assurance

In a first-of-a-kind format for the SPE London Net Zero committee, two carbon capture and storage industry experts will give technical presentations covering flow assurance and reservoir engineering, drawing from their example projects.

Flow assurance and reservoir engineering are identified as key technical barriers needing to be constrained and understood for developing CCS projects globally. Flow assurance, including the modelling of CO2 and impurities from surface facilities through pipelines and wells ultimately for injection, is highly complex requiring advanced modelling techniques. Reservoir engineering from depleted gas fields to maturing carbon storage projects from theoretical to practical capacity includes technical management of injectivity modelling, near-well bore management, and plume development.

To help understand these critical technical challenges, we will be joined by experts from OPC and Pace CCS, each of whom will present on their topics and answer audience questions.

Angela Lodge (OPC) will present ‘CO2 storage in a depleted gas reservoir’, and Dr Eduardo Luna-Ortiz (Pace CCS) will present ‘CCS flow assurance’.
