The SPE is the professional and technical organisation for managers, engineers, operating personnel and scientists involved in the exploration, drilling and production sectors of the oil and gas industry around the world. Of its 88,000+ members, about 40% have degrees in petroleum engineering. The remainder have degrees covering a broad range of engineering and scientific disciplines ranging from chemical, civil and mechanical engineering to physics and mathematics.

The Society’s primary mission is to collect, disseminate and exchange technical information through publications, conferences and technical meetings.

Office Locations
It has offices in Richardson (Dallas), Houston, London, Kuala Lumpur and Dubai. Members are affiliated to an SPE Section, of which there are three in the UK – Aberdeen, Great Yarmouth and London – and 25 in the rest of Europe. Each Section’s activities are coordinated by a board of annually-elected officers and directors who serve on a voluntary basis.
