Outline:

KAPPA Formation Testing day has been designed to cover the practical aspects of job design, data acquisition, QAQC and analysis of Formation Tests. The event will provide an opportunity to gain insight into the world of Formation Testing: from basic tools and operations to data interpretation and integration into the understanding of the well and reservoir. Attendees will also have the opportunity to perform hands-on interpretation exercises at the end of the day.

The day will start off with an introduction to Formation testing: what is a formation test and why do we run them?

The introduction to tools and operations will be followed by sessions on Data QAQC and the different kinds of analysis that can be performed on the data acquired during formation testing, including, Pressure drawdown analysis (vs. time) and Pressure gradient analysis (vs depth).

The last part of the day will be dedicated to participants performing guided hands-on interpretation of FT data (*). The session will focus on Gradient Analysis to identify fluids, fluid contacts and barrier identification, obtain pressure and mobility profiles, conduct related transient analysis, identify, quantify and mitigate sources of pressure and depth errors and understand their petrophysical integration.

(*) The interpretation exercises will be performed using Azurite – KAPPA’s Formation Testing Interpretation package. Participants wishing to take part in the interpretation exercises are requested to bring their own laptops, with the necessary licenses. Demo licenses may be requested to KAPPA prior to the event by contacting support@kappaeng.com
